Fred Harrington Calhoun

Fred H.Calhoun, 85, 104 Brookdale Drive, died Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Mr. Calhoun was a Carter County native and had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Clarence T. and Mary Sparks Calhoun. Mr. Calhoun was preceded in death by two sons, Fred A. Calhoun, Jr. and James T. Calhoun; one sister, Lois Pennington and three brothers, Audie Calhoun, Frank Calhoun and Harlan Calhoun. He was retired from the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service. Mr. Calhoun was a WWII and Korean War veteran. He was a Baptist, a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Johnson City VFW Post #2108. Mr. Calhoun was survived by three sisters, Mildred McCall, Hampton, Demple Stine and her husband Don, Johnson City, Bea Campbell and her husband, Jack, Elizabethton; three brothers, Gene Calhoun and his wife, Dottie, Fort Myers, FL, Don Calhoun and his wife, Louise, Morganton, NC and Dale Calhoun and his wife, Shelby, Elizabethton; one step-daughter, Brenda Jackson, Knoxville; four grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Mary Broyles. A military honors graveside service for Mr. Calhoun will be held at 11 AM Friday, November 24, 2006 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pastor Dewayne Calhoun will officiate. The Veterans of Foreign Wars will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends, Friday, from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at the funeral home
