Mr. Freddie A. Townsend, age 63, of 1800 Knob Creek Road, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Townsend was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was the son of the late Fred H. Townsend and Martha Evelyn Hamby Townsend. Mr. Townsend retired from American Rentals after thirty plus years of service. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include: his loving wife Margaret Townsend of the home; two-step children, Diane Hodges and her fiancée Gary Guy of Johnson City and James Hodges and his friend Lottie of Johnson City; one brother, Edward Townsend and his wife Billie of Johnson City; one sister, Margie Lyons of Johnson City; one uncle, Wallace Townsend of Johnson City; special nephew, Steven Townsend and his wife Crystal of Gray. The funeral service for Mr. Freddie A. Townsend will be conducted at 7 PM Saturday, May 28, 2011 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Dexter Brummitt will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Steven Townsend, Verlin Stevens, David Bowman, Tom Giles, Monroe Williams and Buster Hodge. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Hodges, Lewis Hodges, Roger Norton, Ron Street, John Lowery and Chris Mathis. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 PM Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Saturday prior to the service and other times at the residence.
