Mrs. Gail E. Humphreys, of Johnson City, passed away, Friday, October 14, 2011 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Humphreys was a native of Carter County who had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Roy Carr and Anna Lou Little Carr. Mrs. Humphreys retired from Kennametal and was a member of the Watauga Christian Church. Survivors include: her loving husband of fifty-four years, Vernon Humphreys of the home; a very special niece and nephew, Debbie Sutherland and her husband Mike of Johnson City and Wallace Carr and his wife Vicki of Johnson City; three sisters, June Townsend of Elizabethton, Lynn Webb of Johnson City and Patsy Slagle and her husband Tom of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Heather Sutherland, Mitchell Carr, Grant Sutherland and Morgan Carr; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Gail E. Humphreys will be conducted at 8 PM Sunday, October 16, 2011 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Pastor Donnie Humphrey will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Sunday prior to the service. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 1 PM Monday in the Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Wallace Carr, Mike Sutherland, Grant Sutherland, Tom Slagle, Chris Vaughn and John Bradley. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Trent, Buck Trent and Dan Sutherland. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 12:15 PM Monday to go in procession. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road suite 102, Johnson City, Tn. 37601.
