I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Mr. Garry K. Boggs, age 63, of Johnson City, graduated from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 3 2011 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Boggs was a native of Greenville, TN who had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was the son of the late Henry S. Boggs and Sarah Madge Melton Boggs. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Boggs. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He loved his country and was very patriotic. He retired from General Mills in 2003 after twenty-eight years of service. He was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include: his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Janie Boggs of the home; two daughters, Amy Brown and her husband Tim and Lori Russell and her husband Travis; two brothers, James Boggs and his wife Bettie of Charleston, S.C. and Ric Boggs; two granddaughters, Abby Baxley and Morgan Brown; one grandson, Sammy Brown; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Garry K. Boggs will be conducted at 8 PM Thursday, January 5, 2011 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Roy Yelton will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Friday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Boggs, Chris Boggs, Darrell Boggs, Tim Brown, Travis Russell and Jim Boggs. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military rights. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 9:15 AM Friday to go in procession. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday prior to the service. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the CLC at the VA for their loving care and kindness. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Johnson City, Tn. 37601 or Disabled Veterans.
