George Lloyd Courtney, 85, 279 Flourville Road, Gray, died Thursday, December 28, 2006 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Courtney was a native of Russellville, Tn. who had lived in Greenville, South Carolina for twenty-four years and moved to Johnson City in 1974. He was the son of the late James F. Courtney and Mary Etta Susong Courtney. He was also preceded in death by his wife Lorraine Parrish Courtney in 1999 and a brother James Lawrence Courtney. Mr. Courtney was a Accountant for Pet Dairy Inc. for forty three years. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran. Mr. Courtney was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Johnson City. Survivors include: one daughter, Elaine Canaday, of Gray; three sons, Ralph Courtney and his wife Jody, of Aiken, SC, Robert Courtney and his wife Laurel, of Fort Mill, SC and Ronald Courtney and his wife Sheila, of Dallas, NC; one brother, Howard E. Courtney and his wife Betty, of Russellville, Tn.; eight grandchildren, Lori C. Tillotson, Michael R. Courtney, Joshua J. Courtney, Melia E. Courtney, Matthew S. Courtney, Taylor M. Courtney, Rachel C. Conner and Joseph A. Canaday; two great grandchildren, Megan M. Tillotson and Peyton L. Conner. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for George Lloyd Courtney will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, January 1, 2007 at the South Chapel of the Morris - Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Dr. Ron Murray and Rev.Gene Elliott. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at two. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military Honors will be accorded by the VFW Post # 3382 and the Tennessee National Guard of Kingsport. A Committal service will be conducted in the Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Russellville and all will leave in procession from the funeral home.
