Georgia Alberta Purdy

Georgia Alberta 'Granny Bert'? Purdy, 85, of 1013 East Main St., Jonesborough, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the NHC in Johnson City. She was a native of Jonesborough, daughter of the late, Albert J. and Ethel Hicks Holmes. Georgia was a nurses aid at the Johnson City Memorial Hospital and the Green Valley Developmental Center. She was a member of the St. Marys Catholic Church. Georgia was a veteran of WWII having served in the Womens Army Corps of the U.S. Army. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Purdy in 1988, also three brothers, Ed, Gordon and Clyde Holmes and two sisters, Mary Frank Smalley and Christine Sprinkle. Survivors include; her husband, Harold E. Purdy of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Wayne Rupert of Limestone, Patti and Jerry Hodges of Jonesborough; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Marie Holmes of Johnson City; a sister, Anne Walls of Johnson City; six grandchildren, Robyn Laver, Jeff Purdy, Eric and Lori Rupert, Rachael and Nikki Hodges; seven great grandchildren, Jenna Laver, Evan, Seth and Jacob Purdy, Cody and Caleb Rupert and Jesse Stewart. A Mass is scheduled for Friday, May 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church under the direction of Father Gerrard Finucane. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. A committal service will be conducted in the Monte Vista Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. The family would like to thank Drs. Dossett, Freeman and Wilson, staff of the NHC , Activity and Crafts Departments , especially nursing staff in stations 1 and 4 also a very special thanks to Carol ,Shalania and Sonya, and to Caress Hospice. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to: NHC Activity Fund, 3209 Bristol Highway, Johnson City, TN 37601.
