Georgia Maxine Laws

Georgia Maxine Elliott Laws, widow of John Wheeler Laws, died peacefully at the Christian Care Center of Johnson City Friday, December 9, 2011. She was born in Washington County on March 9, 1918 to the late Walter B. and Elizabeth Buchanan Elliott and lived most of her life in Johnson City. Mrs. Laws was a long-time member of Roan Hill Baptist Church. She loved to travel and was especially proud that she had visited all fifty states. She is survived by: two daughters, Sonia Abernethy, and her husband John, of Bluffton, SC, and Penny Vagle, and her husband Frank, of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, Todd Abernethy, and his wife Heidi, of Tallahassee, FL, Jill Cann, and her husband Simon, of Charlotte, NC, Matthew Abernethy, and his wife Alison, of Wyndmoor, PA, and Mary Rebecca Cheyne, of Alexandria, VA; nine beloved great-grandchildren; several nieces; and one nephew. A celebration of life service for Mrs. Laws will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday December 11, 2011, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home North Chapel. Chaplain Dwight MacPherson will officiate. Burial will follow graveside services conducted 10:00 AM Monday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for those services. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Christian Care Center of Johnson City for their loving care.
