Georgia Rita Parris

On Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at 10:55 PM Georgia ?Rita' M. Parris passed away after a brief illness in Johnson City Medical Center. Rita was a resident of Johnson City, Tennessee and was the daughter of Doctors George Burton and Marguerite Griffin Parris. Rita was a 1968 graduate of Science Hill High School where she was a majorette with the high school band. She attended Milligan College and was a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a B. S. degree in psychology and a M.A.T. in elementary education. Rita taught elementary school in Knox County, was a caseworker, Level IV for Child Protective Services and a supervisor for the Department of Human Services in Johnson City, Tennessee. After her retirement, Rita enjoyed traveling, swimming, researching her family?s history, visiting with friends, and her pets, especially her cat, Violet. Rita was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include: her brother, George Parris; two nieces, Marguerite ?Maggie' and Emily Parris; one aunt, Evelyn Johnson, of Rome, Georgia; cousins, Jean Stanley, Charles Cooper, and the Corbetts, of Jefferson, GA. A committal service provided by Morris-Baker Funeral Home will be held at Monte Vista Memorial Park, Sunday, September 24, 2017, at 2:00 PM with Pastor George Hall officiating. Active pallbearers will include: Teresa Fletcher, Shane Grubbs, George Hall, Lisa Lemmons, Emily Parris, Marguerite ?Maggie' Parris, and George Parris. Family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 PM Sunday. Following the service, George Parris and daughters will receive guests at their family home: 603 Crestview Drive, Johnson City, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
