Mr. Gerald Phillips Gage, 76, of Piney Flats, was welcomed into Heaven on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Gage was born in Bakersville, North Carolina on May 26, 1933. He was raised in Mine Creek, North Carolina, and was a resident of Piney Flats for the past twenty years. He was the son of the late George and Alice P. Gage formerly of Spruce Pine, North Carolina. He graduated from Harris High School and East Tennessee State University. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant from 1952 to 1956 and served two years as an Embassy Guard in Paris, France. Mr. Gage was employed by Holston Defense Corporation for thirty-four years and retired as Purchasing Manager. Mr. Gage was a longtime member of the Downtown Kingsport Rotary and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship. Mr. Gage loved woodworking, carpentry, and was a wonderful gourmet cook. He always enjoyed cooking for those he loved and getting his family together at his house for dinner. He was always helpful to those in need and had a quick wit and loving demeanor. He especially loved living on the lake where he could sit on the porch and watch the water and wildlife. He will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him, and especially by his family. Mr. Gage is preceded in death by: his parents; and his brother, Kenneth Gage. Mr. Gage was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Marys Parish in Johnson City. He is survived by: his loving wife, Elise J. Gage, of the home; son, John P. Gage, and his wife Luci, of Kingsport; son, Mark Gage, of Johnson City; daughter, Crystal Dixon, and her husband, Paul Dixon, of Florence, KY; daughter, Alicia Culbertson, of Gray; ten grandchildren, Nathan Gage, Alden Gage, Bailey Culbertson, Bryce Ailshie, Tyler Ailshie, Nicole Dixon, River Dixon, Lilley Dixon, Jacob Dixon and Avery Dixon; one great grandson, Lucas Dixon.
