Gertrude B. Toncray

March 18, 1922 — April 10, 2006

Gertrude B. Toncray, age 83, died Monday, April 10, 2006 at Asbury Center. The daughter of the late Gertrude Clark Toncray and the late George W. Toncray, Sr., Mrs. Toncray was born in Unicoi County but lived most of her life in Johnson City. She had graduated from ETSU with a BS degree and had graduate work in English at the University of Georgia. She had retired from a position as research assistant with the Department of Interior. She was an active member of St. John?s Episcopal Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Altar Guild, chairman of the altar flowers and lay Eucharistic minister. She had served as a member of Foster Care Review Board for Human Services Department and had volunteered at the VA Medical Library and the Salvation Army. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Toncray was preceded in death by one sister, Lucy King; two brothers, George Toncray, Jr. and John Toncray. Surviving is one nephew, George Toncray of Kingsport and four nieces, Rachel Tiller of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Carol Sharez, Trav Johnson and Lucy Stull McNay. Graveside services for Gertrude Toncray will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday, April 12th at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The Reverend Maggie Zeller will officiate. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 1:00 until 2:00.
