Gilmore O. Sahlin, 85, formerly of Keefauver Road, Gray, TN died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in the NHC Health Care in Johnson City. Mr. Sahlin was a native of New York and had lived most of his life in Washington County, TN. He was a retired Draftsman and Mechanical Engineer with the Holston Defense Plant in Kingsport. Mr. Sahlin was a charter member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and showed great interest and love for his church and his church family. Mr. Sahlin proudly served his country during WW II in the U.S. Navy. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Johnson City Masonic Temple. Mr. Sahlin was a former Scoutmaster for 30 years of service with Troop #33 in Johnson City. He was also the recipent of the Silver Beaver Award as a Scoutmaster. He is preceded in death by his wife, Louise Jenkins Sahlin in 2005. Survivors include: three sons, Roger L. Sahlin and Tom H. Sahlin, both of Gray, TN; and Terry L. and wife Elizabeth Sahlin of Alpharetta, GA.; one daughter, Katherine Sahlin of Johnson City; one grandson, Matthew G. Sahlin of Alpharetta, GA. and one granddaughter, Brandee Sahlin. The funeral service for Gilmore O. Sahlin will be conducted at 1 PM Friday, February 15, 2008 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Dr. James Richter will officiate. Interment will follow at 2 PM Friday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by the VFW # 3382 of Kingsport and the Tennessee National Guard. Active pallbearers will be Nile Bowman, Alf Taylor, Tom Dosser, Kenneth Miller, Dr. Jack Williams, and Carl Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Smith, Gene Skaggs, Richard Scott and Tom Torbett. The family will recieve friends in the funeral chapel from 12 noon to 1 PM Friday, prior to the service. To those who desire, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 207 N.
