Gladys Douglas

August 22, 1918 — October 15, 2006

Gladys Street Douglas, 88, of 405 Colorado Street, died Sunday, October 15, 2006 at her residence following an illness. She was a native of Yancey County, North Carolina, and had lived most of her life in Tennessee, daughter of the late, Sam and Vista Troutman Street. Gladys was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Benjamin Douglas in 1992; a daughter, Carolyn Jean Douglas; three brothers, James H., Bert and Sam Street, Jr.; two sisters, Jess Jamison and Becky Jamerson. 'Granny', will be missed by her faithful canine companion Baby. The family wishes to express special thanks to: her caregivers, Sharon Johnson and Jenny McGlauthlin and the Adventa Hospice, nurses and staff. Survivors include: three sons, B. Eddie Douglas (& Lynett), Jimmie D. Douglas and Kenneth D. Douglas (& Tammy) all of Johnson City; two sisters, Viola Hyatt and Louise Thompson both of Johnson City; two great grandchildren, Tonya (& Ricky) Brown, Elizabethton and Christie Douglas of Ohio; six grandchildren, Clint Douglas, Tyler Douglas, Raina Williams all of Johnson City, Richie (& Barb) Douglas and Candi Douglas both of Elizabethton, Denny Douglas of Illinois; nine great great grandchildren, Brandon, Richelle Brown both of Elizabethton, Bridgett and Michelle Tranor and Jonathan Lancaster all of Ohio, Justin and Johnny Douglas both of Elizabethton, Jared Shelton of Johnson City and Deeanna of Elizabethton; several cousins, nieces and nephews. A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Monte Vista Memorial Park, under the direction of Rev. Dan Foster. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to go in procession at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at Morris - Baker. Active pallbearers will be Kenneth D. Douglas, Clint Douglas, Tyler Douglas, Ricky Brown, John Douglas and Howard Jamerson. Honorary pallbearers will be: nephews and grandsons.
