Gladys L. 'Granny'? Helton, age 95, of 1833 Mary Street, Johnson City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday , May 31, 2007 from her residence. Mrs. Helton was a native of Strawberry Plains, Tennessee and had lived in Johnson City for many years. She was a daughter of the late Elbert F. and Amanda Rebecca Dunn Lowery. Mrs. Helton was lovingly known as 'Granny'? by her family and friends. She was the 'Rock'? that held her family together and will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Mrs. Helton attended the House of Prayer on Main Street from her childhood till the church no longer existed. She was presently a member of the McKinley Memorial Bible Church. She is preceded in death by two daughters, JoAnn Crossno and Evelyn Kilgore, a granddaughter, Shannon Helton, two brothers and one sister. Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald E. and Janis Helton of Morristown, TN, Charles D. and Pamela Helton of Columbus, OH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jane 'Janie'? and 'Bugs'? Stoots of Jonesborough, Sylvia Mae and John Rhea of Johnson City; one sister, Helen Yates of Jonesborough; sixteen grandchildren, Mike Burleson, Pamela Branum, Teresa Rodriguez, Randall Burleson, Rebecca Musick, Doug Burleson, Donnie Blair, Sharon McCourry, David Wayne Helton, Timmy Blair, Charles Helton, Tina Crossno, Robert Crossno, Paula Hicks, Johnny Kilgore and Carolyn Openshaw; several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Gladys L. 'Granny'? Helton will be conducted at 8 PM Saturday, June 2, 2007 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Lenny Smith will officiate. Music will be by Rev. Harold McNabb, soloist. The committal service will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday in the Speedwell Cemetery. Everyone will meet at Morris-Baker at 1:15 PM Sunday to go in procession. Active pallbearers will be the grandchildren. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Guy Robbins. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 6 to 8 PM Saturday,prior to the service. To those who desire, memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd. ,Rockville, MD 20852 The family would like to extend their great appreciation to Adventa Hospice, special nurses, Jennifer Burleson, Vicky Bryant and Christy Snapp for all their loving care shown to Mrs. Helton and her family.
