Glen Tipton

March 25, 1937 — December 26, 2013

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness.. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Glen Tipton, 76, of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital. Mr. Tipton was a Unicoi native, who had lived in the Johnson City area his whole life. He was a son of the late Calvin and Frankie Linville Tipton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: seven brothers, Ray Tipton and his wife Jean, Calvin Tipton, Tom Tipton and his wife Sherry, Paul Tipton and his wife Nancy, Gene Tipton and his wife Ruby, and Arnold Tipton; three sisters, Myrtle McKee, Verna Laws, and Thelma Britt; and two brothers-in-law, Delbert and Buck Garland. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include: his beloved wife of 55 years, Wanda Garland Tipton; two daughters, Angela Hawkins and Sonja Bailey; two sons, Glen Tipton, Jr. and Landon Mark Tipton; six grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Hawkins, Whitney Hawkins Montgomery and her husband Matt, Mandi Collier Tipton and her husband Colby, Morgan Lynn Tipton, Kailand Tipton, and Brooke Nicole Bailey; three great grandchildren, Joshua Briggs, Malia McFarland, and Averie Rose Montgomery; two step granddaughters, Jesse Runyon and Katelynn Bailey; one step grandson, Daniel Bailey; mother-in-law, Agnes L. Jones; brothers-in-law, David Garland, and Kenneth Garland and his wife Ruth; mother of Kailand Tipton, Missy Hoss Tipton; and mother of Mandi and Morgan Tipton, Robin Tipton Cloyd. The Tipton family wishes to thank the Franklin Woods Community Hospital third floor ICU staff for their great care and compassion. The family of Mr. Glen Tipton will receive friends from 11 am to 12:30 pm Sunday, December 29, 2013 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The funeral service will be conducted in the South Chapel at 12:30 pm. Pastor Terry Abel will officiate. The committal service will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ricky Hawkins, Dan Bailey, Matthew Montgomery, and family and friends.
