Glennes Johnson

Mrs. Glennes Garldine Johnson of Gray, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center. Glennes was born in Wichita, Kansas. She was the daughter of Glenn and Clara Belle Phipps. Glennes graduated from North High School in Wichita, Kansas in 1960. Glennes spent many years as a wedding planner, and in her later years continued to enjoy working as a floral designer. She was a founding member of the First Church of God in Valley Center, Kansas. Her final church home was Harrison Christian Church where she was a member of the ladies small group and decorating committee. In her local TOPS chapter, she served in multiple offices and served as Area Captain for the regional TOPS organization for several years. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, and visiting with friends and family across the country. Above all else, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, her brothers M.E. ?Bud' Phipps, Harlen Dale Phipps, and her sister Virginia Lee Zirkel preceded Glennes in death. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Gary R. Johnson; her two sons Bill D. Johnson and Clay E. Johnson, and her daughter Tracy Bennett. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Matthew Grooms, Emily Johnson, Zack Bennett and his fiancee? Alexandria Neeley, Brittany Johnson, Ashton Johnson, Sheridan Johnson, and Caitlin Johnson, and several nieces and nephews. The Johnson family will receive friends on Thursday, November 30, 2017, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm in the Oak Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm under the direction of Minister Brian Powell. A committal service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017, at 1:00 pm at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Johnson City. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 12:50 pm. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Memorials may be made to Harrison Christian Church, 2517 Browns Mill Road, Johnson City, TN 37604.
