Grover C. Burleson

January 6, 1923 — June 2, 2011

Mr. Grover C. Burleson, Sr., age 88, of Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011 in the Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Burleson was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County. He was the son of the late J.R. Burleson and Carrie Belle Garland Burleson. In addition to his parents, one brother, William Dean Burleson and two half brothers, Ted R. Burleson and Claude Burleson, also preceded him in death. Mr. Burleson was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was co-founder of Burleson Construction Company. He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City. Survivors include: his wife of sixty-nine years, Lottie Mae Jenkins Burleson of the home; two sons, Skip Burleson and wife Betsy of Johnson City and J. Allen Burleson and wife Gayle of Jonesborough; four daughters, Karen Hicks and husband Paul of Rocky Mount, VA, Pat Bond of Boones Creek, Julie Burleson of Johnson City and Mary Jones and husband John of Powder Springs, GA; one brother, Reno G. Burleson and his wife Marjorie of Johnson City; one sister-in-law, Mary Nell Burleson of Jackson, TN; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Grover C. Burleson, Sr. will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 6, 2011, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Louis Imsande will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Ben Hicks, Jonathan Hicks, Stephen Hicks, Trey Burleson, Preston Burleson, Jay Burleson and Daniel Burleson. Honorary pallbearers are Kendra Bond Culver, Victoria Vineyard, the employees of Burleson Construction and members of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class. Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors. Special thanks to the rehab team and caregivers who were a tremendous help to Grover the last few years. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Morris-Baker. The family will also receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Johnson City/Washington County Veterans Memorial, P.O. Box 3594, Johnson City, TN 37602 or the charity of your choice.
