Harry Dennis Simmons

Harry Dennis Simmons, age 86 , of Elizabethton, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the James H. Quillen, V.A. Medical Center.He was a native of Washington County and a son of the late, Charles V. and Tullia Kinnick Simmons. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dana and Cecil Simmons and by one sister, Ruby Jane Simmons. He was a member of the Tacoma Church of God. Mr. Simmons was a retired Electrician with the U. S. D. A. He was also a self employed Electrician He met his wife Charlotte, in 1951 at the Tacoma Church of God and married her on October 17, 1952. They were married for almost 57 years.Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; four daughters, Dianne and Robert Wright, Jr. of Elizabethton,Carol Kelly of Orlando, FL, Beverly and Michael McCloud of Jonesborough and Amanda and James Perry of Utica, KY; 11 Grandchildren, Erin Privette, Rachael Runyan, Julie Kelly, Megan McCloud, Becky Kelly, Debbie Wright, Connie Wright, Caitlin McCloud, Betsy Perry, Faith Kelly and Charlie Perry; four great Grandchildren, Haley, Hannah and Abby Privette, Jacob Runyan; two sisters, Louise and Kenneth Scott and Wyona Miller, all of Jonesborough; two brothers, Hugh Lee and Peggy Simmons of Morristown and Lowell and Frances Simmons of Jonesborough a sister in law. Doty Simmons of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Tacoma Church of God. Rev. Don Kelly will officiate. Burial services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Patton Simmons Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 9:15 am Wednesday and proceed to the cemetery. For those who wish memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Suite 102, Johnson City, TN 37601 Active pallbearers will be Robert Wright, Jr., Michael McCloud, James Perry, Thomas Simmons, Ray Simmons and Ralph Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Hutsell, Wayne Bailey, Harry Watson, David Miller and Darrell Simmons. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Tuesday.
