Herbert Carroll Street, 78, of 432 W. Locust Street, Johnson City, died Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was a native of Washington County and had lived here most of his life, son of the late Lee F. and Leona Dayle Evans Street. Herbert was a veteran of Viet Nam, having served in the U. S. Army for 32 years, two tours in Viet Nam and retiring with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He served in the 82nd and 101st Airborne, was Commander of the VFW 2108 for 3 terms, member of TIPS, current Commander of the Cooties, DAV volunteer and American Legion, VA color guard and the Johnson City Moose Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Shirley Street. He was a graduate of ETSU and held a Masters Degree as well and was a protestant. Survivors include: his wife, Ada Outred Street and a son Matthew Street both of Johnson City; two daughters, Leona Thompson of Atlanta, GA and Cheryl Miller of Winter Park, FL; two brothers, Darrell and Evans Street both of Cincinnati, OH; eight sisters, Billie Archer, Nora Shull, Helen Littleton all of Jonesborough, Dorcas Hale, Brenda Butler, Linda Phillips and Gayle Clark all of Johnson City, Rebecca Combs of Port Charlotte, FL; several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend, Charlotte Vaughn of Johnson City and his best canine friend, Molly Sue of the home. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, November 13, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. in the North Chapel of the Morris - Baker Funeral Home under the direction of celebrant, Rick Hill. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at eight. A committal service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at the Mt. Home National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Military honors will be accorded by the VFW #3382 of Kingsport. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be: his brothers and brother-in-laws, and nephews: Staff Sgt. Philip Archer, Chief Deputy Patrick Littleton and First Sgt. Anthony Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the form of contributions to one?s favorite charity.
