Hilda Ruth Winkle

Hilda Ruth King Winkle, age 86, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. She was born to the late Arden L. King and Daisy Bristol King in Piney Flats, Tennessee. In addition to her parents, Hilda is preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Albert King and one sister, Julia Ann King Ford.

Hilda worked for the Washington County Food Service as a cook for the school system. She was a member of the Princeton Presbyterian Church and served in numerous areas of the church for over 60 years.

Hilda was an avid gardener and had a genuine green thumb. She loved working in her yard and garden and always had something blooming around the house.

Those left to cherish Hilda’s memory are her husband of 66 years, Karl Franklin Winkle; three sons, Robert Winkle (wife, Paulette), Frank Winkle, and Larry Winkle; granddaughter, Jessica Ann Winkle Barrett (husband, Joseph); grandson, Christopher Winkle; great granddaughter, Jacklyn Quinn Barrett; brother, Larry King (wife, Jean); and several nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to her dear friend, Dotty Simpson, and her sister-in-law, Jean King, who were always there and willing to take her to appointments, the grocery store, shopping or wherever she needed to go.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers, Tammy, Amy, and Channa, and to the Amedisys hospice nurses, Laura and Linda, for their dedicated and loving care in Hilda’s final days and hours.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 23, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in Johnson City. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM with Rev. Donnie Humphrey officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be: Charles Bailey, Santo Cicirello, LeRoy Clyburn, Gerald Davis, Bill Godsey, Charlie Nave, Bill G. Smith, Larry Taylor, and Andy White. Burial will be at the Mountain Home Cemetery at a later date to be determined.
