Hobert C. Gentry, 85, of Johnson City, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Lakebridge Healthcare Center as a result of complications with Alzheimers disease. He was born on February 28, 1930, in Marshall, NC, to the late Andrew Cephas and Loduska King Gentry. He served his country proudly in the United States Army for 27 years and retired as a Master Sergeant. Following his retirement from military service he was employed by East Tennessee State University for 12 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Darnell Gentry; daughters Patricia Ann Fann and Sandra Long; sisters Beatrice Coward and Rena Tipton; and brothers, Blake, George, Denny, Ervin, Donald, Causie, Warner, and James Gentry. He is survived by a son, Ronnie Gentry and wife, Cindy; a sister, Margaret Thurman and husband, Carroll; son-in-law, Denny Long; granddaughter, Stephanie Fann; two great granddaughters, Summer and Brittany; special nephew and caregiver, Tommy Thurman along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Morris '? Baker Funeral Home, then leave in procession to Washington County Memory Gardens for a committal service at 3:30 pm. The service will be presided by Rev. Bob Edmonds and the Boone Dam VFW and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors. Active pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Entombment in the mausoleum will follow.
