Howard C. Trent, 87, of 880 Smalling Road, Johnson City, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 4, 2007, at the V.A. Medical Center Hospital in Johnson City. He was a native of Washington County and had lived in Washington and Carter Counties most of his life. He was a son of the late Charles and Virgie Smith Trent. He was also preceded in death by one son, Allen Trent and by one sister, Pauline Humphrey. Mr. Trent was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a W.W. II U.S. Army veteran having served in the Philippines and was retired from North American Rayon in Elizabethton. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Bertha Ellen Blevins Trent, two sons and daughters in law, Sherill Trent and his wife, Carolyn of Gray and Larry Trent and his wife, Linda of Telford. One daughter and son in law, Lawanda and Danny Depew of Gray; 8 Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren; two brothers, Chester Trent of Johnson City and Mitchell Trent of Midwest, OK and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 PM Tuesday from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Reece Harris will officiate. Entombment will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday from the Monte Vista Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for these services on Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday. The family wishes to send special thanks to the staff and volunteers of the James H. Quillen V. A. Medical Center for their loving, compassionate and dedicated care during Howards stay.
