Ira Mckinley Stanley

Ira McKinley Stanley, 86, Mountain Home, Tennessee, died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Mr. Stanley was a Nora, Virginia native and had lived at Mountain Home since 2001. He was a son of the late Kenova and Margaret Moore Stanley. One sister, Lydia Yates and three brothers, Edward Stanley, Clyde B. Stanley and Roosevelt Stanley, preceded Mr. Stanley in death. He was a WWII US Army veteran, having served under General George S. Patton in the 2nd Armored Division. Mr. Stanley retired from the US Coast Guard. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Stanley was survived by his wife, Versie Lee Stanley, MD; two sons, Johnnie M. Stanley and his wife Pat, Havre de grace, MD, Douglas Stanley, Baltimore, MD; one daughter, Vickie Lynn Stanley, Baltimore, MD; five brothers, Bueford C. Stanley, Johnson City, Paul M. Stanley and Banner Stanley both of Houston, TX, Hugh Stanley, Deer Park, TX and Neubern Stanley, Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Virginia Bess Villani, Lufkin, TX and Nina Delaney, Clintwood, VA; four grandchildren, Gregory Scott Stanley, Erin Nicole Stanley, Michele Stanley and Katlynn Stanley and numerous nieces and nephews. A military graveside service for Mr. Stanley will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN. Chaplain James Browning will officiate. A military color guard will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:30 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contirbutions be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #8979, Clintwood, VA 24228.
