Isham I.G. Shell

Isham 'I.G.' Shell, 70, 602 Southview Drive, Johnson City, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Shell was a native of Asheville, North Carolina who had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was the son of the late Isham Greene Shell, Sr. and Ollie Ora Dalton Shephard. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one son, Ronald Lee Shell; one sister Orlena Warfield and one brother, Parmalee Shell, his grandmother, Mary Edna Shell. He was retired from Holston Defense. He was a US Marine Corps veteran. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Metal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, three Purple Hearts, and the 3D Marine Aircraft Wing Nuclear , Biological and Chemical Defense School. Mr. Shell was an Intelligence Research Officer/Technician. He received numerous awards for his service in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Shell was a member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Jackson Shell, of the home; one son, Brian Scott Shell, Sr. and his wife Tara, of Jonesborough; one daughter, Mandi Holbrook, of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Leigh Ann Shell Purgason and her husband, of Greeneville, Brian Scott Shell, Jr., of Greeneville, Isaac Dalton Bryant, of Johnson City and Nicole Marie Teery, of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews. The graveside service for Isham 'I.G.' Shell will be conducted at 11 AM Friday, April 20, 2007 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pastor Lamar Garrison will officiate. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 AM Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Morris-Baker. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Johnson City, TN 37601.
