Jack Osborne

Mr. Jack Osborne, 87, Johnson City, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Ashe County, North Carolina, he lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a graduate of Science Hill High School, where he earned All-State and All-Southern football honors, and was part of Science Hills inaugural Hall of Fame in 2007. He proudly served his country during World War II as a bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps and returned to Johnson City to open Varsity Dry Cleaners, which he owned and operated until retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Lola Harrell Osborne, sister, Georgia McClain, and beloved wife, Kathryn 'Katie'? Taylor Osborne. Survivors include two daughters, Janie Hyder and husband, Mike, and Kathy Simounet and husband, Tim, all of Johnson City; one brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Leah, of Greeneville; one sister, Ruth Vest, of Johnson City; two grandchildren, Amanda Hyder and Taylor Simounet, of Johnson City; and several nephews. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 207 North Boone Street, Johnson City, Tn. 37604 or Doe River Gorge Christian Camp, P.O. Box 790, Elizabethton, Tn. 37644. The funeral service for Mr. Osborne will be conducted at 7 PM Friday July 24, 2009 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Tim Bowers will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 1 PM Saturday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 will accord military honors. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 PM Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 5 to 7 PM Friday prior to the service.
