James Emmett Grant, Sr.

James Emmett Grant, Sr., aged 77, of 610 Ridgeview Dr., Johnson City, Tennessee died June, 24th, 2006 at Veterans Affairs Hospital at Mountain Home, Tennessee. He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City, the son of the late Ruth Mason Grant and the late Emmett Calvin Grant. Having worked at John Sevier Middle School in Kingsport as a social studies teacher for 49 years, Mr. Grant retired from the Kingsport City School System in 1991.A United States Army veteran, Mr. Grant had served during the Korean War as an MP. He was a 1958 graduate of East Tennessee State College. A member of Princeton Presbyterian Church, Mr. Grant had served as a deacon and an elder for 20 years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Grant was preceded in death by his wife Margie Wilson Grant in 2005; a sister, Mildred Lacey and a brother, Ralph Grant. He is survived by two sons, James E. Grant, Jr. of Johnson City, Michael T. Grant and his wife Leann of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; a brother, Robert 'Bob' Grant of Johnson City; a granddaughter, Makenzie Ann Grant of Johnson City and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Grant will be conducted Sunday, June 25th, at 2:00 PM at Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Rev. Gary D. Thacker will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
