James Etter, Jr.

June 17, 1935 — April 24, 2006

James Etter, Jr., 70, 2506 Larkspur Drive, died Monday, April 24, 2006 at his residence. Mr. Etter was a Carter County native, a former resident of Sullivan County and had lived most of his life in Washington County. He was a son of the late James Etter and Susan Woodby Etter. Mr. Etter was a sales manager with American Greetings and retired after thirty years service. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle. Mr. Etter was a graduate of Happy Valley High School and attended Milligan College. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was survived by his wife, Helen Haines Etter, three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Alan and Rachel Etter, Bristol, TN, Matthew James and Cathy Houston Etter, Johnson City and Michael Steven and Deborah Malone Etter, Morristown; one daughter, Melissa Etter Street, Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Christopher Alan Etter, Amber Etter, Sarah and Wesley Warren, Macy and Madison Etter and Megan and Morgan Street and one brother, Roy L. Newton, Johnson City. A funeral service for Mr. Etter will be conducted at 1 PM Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Faith Tabernacle Church. Reverend Harold Jones and Reverend John Perkins will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Bob Satterfield, Chris Etter, Richard Haines, Edward Stine, Tim Williams and Greg Forbes. Brother Tom Elliot will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the funeral home. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the Johnson City Medical Center Hospice, Amsouth Bank, Boone Trail Baptist Church and his many friends and neighbors.
