James Harold Warren, Sr.

James 'Harold'? Warren, Sr., Ph.D., age 69, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 at Appalachian Christian Village Health Care Center after a lengthy illness.Dr. Warren was born in Columbia, LA on March 29, 1938 and had lived in Johnson City since 1969. He was a son of the late Amos M. Warren and Katherine Barnett Warren of West Monroe, LA.He was a loving husband and father and dedicated teacher. Throughout his high school and college years he played competitive golf and led his team to many titles. Dr. Warren received his B.S. in Economics & Mathematics from Bowling Green State University in 1961 and a Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in 1969. He held several academic appointments including, Research Assistant, Oklahoma State University from 1962-64, Assistant Director and Regional Economist, Technology Use Studies Center, Southeastern State College, Durant, OK; and from September 1969 until May of this year, Associate Professor, East Tennessee State University, Department of Economics and Finance. Dr. Warren was a former Director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research in the College of Business and Technology from 1979-1982. He was a strong advocate for tax reform, he spoke to various organizations about this subject. In addition to his mother, Dr. Warren is survived by his loving wife of thirty-four years, Sharlene E. Warren; three children, Noel Powell and her husband John, Hickory, NC, a son, James Harold Warren, Jr (Jimmy) and his wife Lisa, Blakeslee, PA, and daughter Michelle Vaughn and her husband Michael, Durham, NC; and four grandchildren, Evan, Marshall, Nathan, and Julia Powell. A funeral service for Dr. James 'Harold'? Warren will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at 7:30 PM from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Rev. Michael Pelham will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 6:00 PM until service time. A private committal service will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Washington County Memory Gardens. John Barrett, Rick Dawson, Dr. James Doss, Dr. James Flugrath, James Hughes, Michael Vaughn, and Dr. Dan Schumaier will serve as honorary pallbearers.
