James Holliday Carico, age 76, of Piney Flats, Tennessee died Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Jim was born January 24, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio to the late James William Carico and the late Josephine Sutherland Carico. He graduated from Lincoln Memorial University in 1967 where he studied business.
James started his career at Texas Instruments as a production manager. During this time, he started and managed the Texins softball team in the Men’s Industrial Softball League. His team traveled the U.S. playing softball and they made it to the National Championship multiple years. Jim went on to work for Barrette’s Outdoor Living in Bulls Gap, TN as a purchasing manager. He retired in 2016.
Jim was also a member of the Tri-Cities Bass Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and he was an avid racer. He was passionate about anything that had to do with racing. He loved go-kart racing and mentoring others in this sport. This led him to found “Carico MotorSports” where he was a driver and owner. He was also a long term season ticket holder at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Pearl and Holliday Sutherland and special aunts, Louise Sutherland and Catherine Gilbert.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Cora Snyder Carico; daughters, Cathy (and John) Cormier and Marie Lowe; grandchildren, Bailey Cormier, Brooks Cormier, Ben Cormier, and Belle Rose Cormier, Owen Lowe, and Riley Lowe; brother, Joe (and Ginger) Carico; aunt, Jane Lyon; and many cousins, other extended family members and friends.
Mr. Carico’s family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service immediately following, at 3:00 pm, under the direction of Rev. Mike Richards. The memorial service will also be available to view on the Morris-Baker website, under James’ obituary page, and it will be available to view for 90 days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/).
