James L. Lanny Reverend Street

February 27, 1943 — June 1, 2007

James L. 'Lanny'? Street, passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center after a brief bout with cancer on Friday morning June 1st, 2007. 'He fought a good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for him the crown of righteousness'?. He was a member and associate pastor and Senoir Adult Pastor of Mountain View Baptist Church for over seventeen years, where he took part in everything from childrens ministry, to the choir, to driving the church vans. He was also a former pastor of Roan Hill and Bethel Baptist Churches and enjoyed his ministry at Davy Crockett Campground. His servants heart allowed him to minister in the hospital. He enjoyed working in the ICU waiting room where he ministered to many hurting families. He retired from Eastman Kodak and worked several years for Sherwood Auto Sales. He was preceded in death by: parents, Fred L. Street and Bonnie Oxendine Street, brother, Stanley L. Street, sisters, Janice Y. Reedy and Vivian M. Cummings. Lanny is survived by his wife, Peggy J. Street, son Phillip L. Street and his wife, Missy, daughter, Heather S. Street, Toni Hensley, his niece and special daughter, granddaughter, Zoey, the pride of his life, and his special grandson, Zack; sister, Shirley Ford, Jonesborough, sisters and brothers-in-law, Jo Ann and William Knight, Greenville, Brenda and Lamont Barnett, Elizabethton, Kathy and Kenny Phillips, Jonesborough, several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, many, many friends and his two little sidekicks, Sophia and Snuggles. Lanny was a US Air Force veteran, and served as an aircraft instrument technician from 1962 until 1965. He served in the Philippines and the main Air Force Base in Rhine, Germany. A celebration of Life Service for Rev. Lanny Street will be held at 8 PM Monday, June 4, 2007 at Mountain View Baptist Church. Reverend James Cambron, Pastor Brian Holloway and Rev. Sherrill Nave will officiate. Music will be provided by 'For His Glory'? and Tamara Coffman. The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Monday at the church. A military graveside service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 12:30 PM and travel in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Lannys nephews, Brian Baines, Allen Baines, Jeremy Barnett, Michael Cummings, Wally Cummings, Tim Ford and Jimmy Knight. Honorary pallbearers will include his church family and deacons at Mountain View Baptist Church, Reverend D.C. Byrd, special nurses, advocates and volunteers at the Johnson City Medical Center and former co-workers. The family would like to express special thanks for all the love and support they have received from friends and family members and the ICU staff at the Johnson City Medical Center. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mountain View Baptist Church, Building Fund, 4005 Bristol Highway, Johnson City, TN 37601.
