James T. Powell

James 'Jim'? T. Powell, 83, of Johnson City passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. He was a native of Washington County and the son of the late George Powell and Cordie McInturff Penix. He was a member of the Skyline Heights Baptist church for fifty years. Jim was the past master of the Limestone Masonic Lodge. He was the Washington County Commissioner for sixteen years and Safety Director of Washington County for twenty years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by: his beloved wife of sixty two years, Betty J. Powell; two brothers Jack and Robert Powell; sister, Dorothy Lee; granddaughter, Kristi Manning; and stepfather, Vernon Penix. Survivors include: son, James Powell and wife Tina of Gray, TN.; two daughters, Vickie and husband Larry Privette of Jonesborough, TN. and Sonia Hicklin of Jonesborough, TN.; six grandchildren, Justin Powell, Matthew Tittle, Dylan and wife Ashley Peterson, Danielle and husband Coit Dixon, Cody Powell, and Brittany and husband Cory Dillon; four great grandchildren, Whitney Bowen, Raven Dixon, Sophia Dixon and Kyleigh Peterson; two great great grandchildren, Nyk Bowen and Liam Manning; and a host of nieces and nephews.
