James William Jackson, Sr.

April 27, 1919 — October 17, 2007

Mr. James W. Jackson, Sr. age 88, of Johnson City won his battle with Alzheimer and Cancer. He was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Extended Care. Mr. Jackson was a native of Washington County and the son of the late Ruel S. Jackson and Lillie Mae Prevette Jackson. He was a World War II veteran serving his country in the U. S. Air Force for five years. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, but attended Grace Free Will Baptist Church. He retired from Leon Fernbach after 43 years of service. He was preceded in death by two sisters, infant sister Bonnie E. Jackson and Eveline Jackson Street and a brother, Harry Jackson. Survivors include: his wife, Allie Evelyn (Pud) Godsey Jackson of the home; two sons, Jim Jackson, Jr. and wife Missy of Erwin and Jerome Jackson of the home; granddaughters, Julie Smith and husband, David Smith, Jaime Long and fiance D.J. Foss; two great granddaughters, Brooke Shelton and Jaylee Long; two great grandsons, Jacob and Matthew Smith; several nieces and nephews; a sister, Bertha Lee Patterson of Johnson City. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice and the VA Nursing Home, for the exceptional care they bestowed upon our husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, October 19, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. at the Grace Free Will Baptist Church, under the direction of Pastor Curtis Hurt and Pastor Jackie Cole. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at eight. There will be a committal service conducted on Saturday, October 20, 2007 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. Family and Friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession at 10:45 a.m. Active pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be: Troy Garland, Doug Jenkins, Roy Francis, Garland Hood, John Mosier, Jim Keene, Jim Branch, Robert Elliott, Steve Head, Richard Smith and Arthur Light.
