Jane Johnston

Jane Moore Johnston, age 79, 602 W. Mountain View Rd., Johnson City, TN, died of cancer at her home on June 27, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 19, 1926, in Boston, MA, Mrs. Johnston grew up in Southern Pines, NC, where she attended The Arc School and Southern Pines High School, where she was a varsity tennis player and an avid equestrian. Following her attendance at St. Mary?s School in Raleigh, NC and Garland Finishing School in Boston, MA, Mrs. Johnston married former FBI Agent and late Fayetteville attorney, William (Bill) T. Johnston, who pre-deceased her in 1973. She was a long-time resident of Fayetteville, NC, moving to Johnson City in Nov., 1999, to be near her son, a daughter, and their families. Mrs. Johnston was the daughter of the late George Clifford Moore, Jr. and the late Dorothy Copeland Moore. Also pre-deceasing her was her brother, George C. Moore, III. She is survived by a sister, Dorothy Moore Cash, Southern Pines, NC. Survivors include one son, four daughters and their spouses, 12 grandchildren and spouses, and 1 great-granddaughter. Son: William (Bill) T. Johnston, Jr. (Deb), Johnson City, TN; Daughters: Janine Johnston Wilson (Dean), Johnson City, TN; Jane Johnston Nuzum (Robert), Venice, FL; Kim Johnston Brandl (Jeff), Lake Zurich, IL; and Tracey Johnston Alfero (Tony), Plantation, FL. Grandchildren: Ashley Dean Wilson (Tracy), Johnson City, TN; Ryan George Wilson, most recently Park City, UT, and who moved back to Johnson City, TN 2 weeks ago; Robert Scott Nuzum, Kirk A. Nuzum, William Coy Nuzum, Venice FL; Russell (Ania), Margaret, and Nicholas Eisenbarth, Alexandra Brandl, Lake Zurich, IL; Kelsey Elizabeth, Jarett and Tori Alfero, Plantation, FL; 1 great-granddaughter, Avery Haas, Johnson City, TN. Also surviving is Jane Johnston?s dearly-beloved 21 year companion, Maj. (Ret) Charles LePors, formerly of Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg, NC, who lives in Johnson City, TN. Mrs. Johnston is also survived by her beloved dogs: Addie, Harley, and her cat Marty-Charlie. Mrs. Johnston was a long-time member of St Johns Episcopal and Holy Trinity Episcopal Churches in Fayetteville, NC, where she served on the Alter Guilds for many years. A Volunteer with Highsmith and Cape Fear Valley Hospitals in Fayetteville, NC, an active member for years in Cross Creek Garden Club, and a member of 'The Tuesday Night Ladies Group,' during her years in Fayetteville, Jane Johnston had many friends in Fayetteville, NC, whom she dearly loved. She was a lifelong advocate for animals and the environment, donating extensively to the Humane Society, the National Wildlife Federation, local animal shelters, and many environmental groups. Mrs. Johnston requested a private burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Southern Pines, NC, following cremation.
