Jerry Mitchell Wiggins

June 6, 1917 — May 15, 2015

ArrangementMitchell Wiggins, 97, Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord and his wife, Pauline, on May 15, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Martha Bowman and step- father Henry Bowman. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in WWII. Mitchell retired from Johnson City Spring & Bedding Company. He was a Christian and member of Southside Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was manager of a championship girl?s softball team in his younger years. Mr. Wiggins was most proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them and all of his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife Pauline, his sister, Irene, preceded him in death when she was only 8 years old, his grandson, Michael Hill and great grandson, Patrick Owens. Survivors include: 2 daughters and sons- in- law, Elmer and Betty Shipley and J.D. and Carolyn Slagle; 5 grandchildren, Ricky, Vikki, and Jr. Hill, Chad Slagle and Joanne Monahan; 11 great grandchildren; five great- great grandchildren; and sister- in- law Marie Yates of Erwin. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Life Care Center in Gray for the care they gave him. We also appreciate the care of Caris Health Care and especially the compassion and care of Dr. Gonce. The family of Mitchell Wiggins will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, May 18, 2015 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Friends and family are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10: 15 AM Tuesday to go in procession to Mountain Home National Cemetery for a 10:45 AM graveside service under the direction of a VA Chaplain with military honors provided by the Boone Dam VFW and Tennessee National Guard.
