Jessie Phipps Starnes, 89, of Johnson City, died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at her residence. She was a Watauga, TN native who had lived all of her life in the Johnson City area. She was a daughter of the late Jacob Anderson and Nona Jane Blevins Phipps. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Starnes was a member of Tri-Cities Church of God, Piney Flats. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, crocheting, and knitting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, James Jefferson Starnes; five brothers, Basil, Ben, Wallace 'Doc'?, Jim, and Brown Phipps; and six sisters, Ethel Farris, Necy Persinger, Hazel Cartwright, Hassie Bridgeford, Emma Lou Isaac, and Charlotte Sellers. Survivors include: three sons, Jim Starnes, and his wife Shirley, of Rockwood, Jake Starnes, and his wife Susie, of Johnson City, Rick Starnes, and his wife Susie, of Cleveland, TN; daughter, Nona Keyes, and her husband Mike, of Johnson City; ten grandchildren, Richard Keyes, Julie Smith, and her husband Leo, Marty Starnes, and his wife Debbie, Jeff Starnes, and his wife Robin, Janet Presnell, and her husband Randy, Barry Starnes, and his wife Angela, Craig Keyes, and his wife Amanda, Casey Starnes, and his wife Amy, Jakie Starnes, and his wife Emily, and Renee Barnett, and her husband Todd; twenty-two great grandchildren, Kole, Madison, Kyler, Kelly, James, Jonathan, Justin, Kennedy, Sadie, Jakie, Andrew, Lydia, Lauren and Jessee Starnes, Kamiran, Justin, Alex and Adam Keyes, Kayla and Kassidy Smith, and Jordan and Autumn Barnett; and several nieces and nephews.
