Jessie Vines

Jessie Odom Vines, 96, formerly of 121 Eli Masters Road, Jonesborough, died Friday, November 04, 2005 at NHC Healthcare following a lengthy illness. She was a native of Washington County, Tennessee where she had lived most of her life. Mrs. Vines was a daughter of the late Landon Edward Odom and Belle McKee Odom, and was a descendant of several pioneer Washington County families. She was a1929 graduate of Washington College Academy, Limestone and attended Bridgewater (Va.) College. Mrs. Vines had been a member of Enon Baptist Church for over sixty-eight years, where she had served in many capacities throughout the years. Her husband of fifty-one years, Frank Vines, preceded her in death in 1982, along with four brothers, Clinton Odom, George W. Odom, and infant twin boys; a sister, Velma Elizabeth Odom; and a nephew, Robert L. Odom. Survivors include a brother, Robert L. Odom, Johnson City; three nephews and their wives Randall K. and Debbie J.Odom, Jonesborough, Michael G. and Karen Odom, Missouri, and Richard H. and Debbie Odom, Winter Park, Fla; nieces Judy O. Sumner and her husband Bruce Sumner, Orlando, Fla., and Deborah W. Odom, Johnson City; several great nieces, great nephews, and cousins; and a special friend Betty Smith, Johnson City. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of NHC Healthcare, Johnson City and Caris Hospice, Elizabethton for the loving care they provided Mrs. Vines. She deeply appreciated the many opportunities NHC gave her to use her gifts of Bible teaching. A funeral service for Jessie Odom Vines will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 6, 2005 from Central Baptist Church. Rev. Tom Straka and Pastor Donnie Humphrey will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. A graveside service will be held on Monday November 7, 2005 at 11:00 AM in Seviers Cemetery, Jonesborough. Pallbearers will be Randall K. Odom, Dustin Odom, R. Willard Warfield, Bruce A. Young, Kipp N.Stephenson, and Debbie J. Odom. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.
