John Clifton Curtis

August 27, 1919 — April 23, 2005

John Clifton Curtis, 85, of Piney Flats, died Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Piney Flats, he was a son of the late Rowie Viola Day Curtis and the late Maynard Dee Curtis. Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Ernest Curtis, two sisters, Amelia Curtis and Dorothy Barnes, and an infant granddaughter, Stephanie Elaine Lewis. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in both the European and Pacific theaters. He worked for 44 years at NARC in Elizabethton before retiring in 1983. Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Louise Crumley Curtis; their two daughters, Martha Lewis and her husband Ed of Salisbury, NC, and Patricia Davis and her husband Jerry of Piney Flats; five grandchildren, Stephen Lewis and his wife Mary Ellen Huckabee of Atlanta, Melanie Burton and her husband Scott of Salisbury, NC, Mark Lewis and his wife Julie of Pleasant Prairie, WI. Jody Davis and his wife Susan of Knoxville, TN, and Crista Austin and her husband Drew of Beaufort, SC; eight great grandchildren; one brother, M.D. Curtis; and three sisters, Shirley Goodman, Willie Feathers and Shelia Cross. The funeral service for Mr. Curtis will be conducted in the chapel of Morris-Baker Funeral Home of Johnson City on Monday, April 25, at 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 o?clock prior to the service. Interment will be held at Monte Vista Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. and travel in procession to the cemetery. The grandsons and Lynn Barnes will serve as pallbearers
