John E. Dr. West

Dr. John E. West, 84, 908 Millercrest Drive, Johnson City, died Thursday, November 30, 2006 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Dr. West was a Memphis native and had lived in Johnson City since 1959. He was a son of the late James Leonard and Mary Louise Ragland West. Dr. West was preceded in death by a son, John Edward West, Jr., killed in action in Vietnam in 1969. Dr. West was a retired dentist and had worked for the Department of Dental Services at Mountain Home Medical Center for 24 years where he had served as Chief of Dental Services for 17 years. He was a member of the American Dental Association. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Johnson City. He was a former Elder Emeritus at First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City. Dr. West was a WWII US Army veteran and a 1947 graduate of UT-Memphis. He had participated in Chinese American Scientific Technology Exchange and lectured in universities in China, was an adjunct professor at ETSU where he trained dental assistants and oral hygienists. Survivors include his wife, Josephine Sullivan West; one daughter, Jo Ann West, Atlanta, GA; two sons, Terrance Flynn West and his wife, Nanett, NY and David Russell West and his wife, Marlene, Johnson City; five grandchildren, Dr. Scott Joseph Goldman and his wife, Lisa, Olympia, Washington, Julie Elaine Goldman Caran and her husband, Dr. Kevin Caran, Harrisonburg, VA, John Edward West, Asheville, NC, James Robert West, and Katherine West both of Johnson City and Charmaine Qualls, Fort Worth, Texas; one great grandson, Joshua Simon Goldman. A memorial service for Dr. West will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, December 2, 2006 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home North Chapel. Dr. Angus Shaw and Reverend Kelver Mullins will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home Tennessee, Monday, December 4. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: Central Baptist Church building fund, 300 N. Roan Street, Johnson City, TN. 37601.
