John E. Holloway

Mr. John E. Holloway, 87, of Piney Flats, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Holloway was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He was a son of the late James and Lucy Harvey Holloway. Mr. Holloway served in the US Army Air Corps. He had worked for Ford Motor Company for 46 years. He also ministered at the Washington County Detention Center for 32 years. He was a member of the Johnson City Church of God. In the church as well as in daily life John ministered to those around him, demonstrated steadfast faith and served as a prayer warrior for those in need. John had a tremendous impact on the life of others. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Holloway, and sister, Mary Ruth Stilwell. Survivors include: his wife of sixty-seven years, Margie Sartain Holloway; two daughters, Glenda H. Davis and her husband Boyce, and Brenda K. Ferguson and her husband Ben; four grandchildren, John W. Davis and his wife Megan, Amanda Holloway Ferguson, Ben Ferguson IV, and Christina L. Helms and her husband Dustin; six great grandchildren, Joseph Davis, Claire Davis, Andrew Davis, Ethan Helms, Evelyn Helms, and Bella Davis; and several nieces and nephews. The family of Mr. John E. Holloway will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, September 10, 2015, in Johnson City Church of God. The funeral service will follow at 8 pm at the church with Rev. Bryant C. Collins officiating. A graveside committal service will be conducted at 10:45 am Friday, in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Family and friends are requested to meet at the Johnson City Church of God by 10:15 am Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors.
