John Markland

John Joseph Markland, 78, of Johnson City, passed away at the James H. Quillen Veteran Affairs Medical Center on Friday, September 28, 2018. He was a native of Johnson city, a son of the late Preacher Fred and Minnie Gaddy Markland. John was a true soldier for the Lord. He was a Deacon at Dry Creek Free Will Baptist Church, though he could be found in a different church somewhere almost every night of the week. He enjoyed singing, worshipping, visiting, and many other activities with his church families. He loved to share gospel music with others and was known by many as ?The CD Man?, which was his own personal ministry. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by: one daughter, Louann Markland; several siblings, Gene Markland, Marie Barnett, Louise Howell, Bill Markland, and his twin, James Markland. Survivors include: his wife of nearly fifty-three years, Jessie Markland; four children, Will Markland and his wife Mary, Hope Dugger and her husband Chris, Rachel Dickerson, and Joshua Markland; brother, Robert Markland and his wife Susan; several grandchildren, Caleb Markland, Audrey Markland, Dakota Dickerson, Nevaeh Dickerson, Kaylee Markland, and Ava Markland; brother-in-law, Hubert Barnett; sisters-in-law, Jackie Markland and Mary Markland; special nephew, Tim Barnett; as well as many more treasured friends and family members. The family of John Markland will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow, officiated by Pastors Terry Jones and Bobby Miller. A committal service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Friends and family are asked to gather at the funeral home by 1:45 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.
