John Thomas Roach

John Thomas Roach, age 58, 1647 Doubletree Lane, Nashville, TN died of a heart attack at his residence Wednesday, October 18, 2006. Mr. Roach was the son of Josephine St John Roach and the late John A. Roach. Mr. Roach was a native of Johnson City and former builder. While living in the Tri-Cities, he served on the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Jonesborough Historical Preservation Association. Mr. Roach moved to Nashville and worked as an appraiser and an accountant. He was a 1966 graduate of Science Hill High School, a 1970 graduate of Duke University with a BA in religion and a 1984 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Master of Business Administration. He also did post-graduate studies at the University of Edinburgh. John was truly a multi-faceted person who enjoyed music, architecture, history and science. He loved books and philosophy and enjoyed engaging others in discussion. Mr. Roach was devoted to his family and friends. He extended his time, resources, and expertise in many areas, taking care of loved ones in hard times as well as sharing in all of their joys. He was a member of the Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church and Scout Troop 36. Mr. Roach was preceded in death by his father John A. Roach and a brother James S. Roach. Survivors include: his mother, Josephine St John Roach of Johnson City; one sister, Josephine Hemphill and her husband, Chris, of Johnson City; one brother, Robert D. Roach and his wife Leila, of Longwood, FL; three nephews, Scott Hemphill og New York, New York, Brian Hemphill and his wife Claire of Winston-Salem, NC and Michael Roach of Longwood, FL; three nieces, Anna Mitchell and her husband Steve of Corvallis, Oregon, Margaret Roach of Johnson City, and Katherine Roach of Johnson City; one great nephew, Matthew Mitchell of Corvallis, Oregon. For those who wish, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, 201 East Market Street, Johnson City, TN 37601 or to a charity of you choosing. The memorial service for John Thomas Roach will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday, NOVEMBER 4, 2006 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Rev. Brian Taylor and Rev. Lauri Jo Cranford will officiate. Music will be by Mrs. Jane LaPella, organist and Mr. Doug Grove-DeJarnett, soloist. Interment of the cremains will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 1 to 2 PM Saturday prior to the service.
