Johnnie Josphine Davis

June 2, 1915 — December 23, 2006

J. Josephine Davis, 91, formerly of 1013 E. Holston Avenue, died Saturday, December 23, 2006 at the Appalachian Christian Village. She was a native of Baileyton, daughter of the late Jesse Wilkerson and Hattie Southern Davis. Josephine lived in Bulls Gap for many years before moving to Johnson City in 1936 and attended the Johnson City Business College. She worked simultaneously for the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad Company and the ETWNC Transportation Company and retired as secretary for the Vice President after 29 years of service. After retirement she volunteered for the American Red Cross on the Bloodmobile. She belonged to the Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, but had attended the Unaka Avenue Baptist Church in Johnson City. Josephine also attended the Johnson City Senior Citizens and the ETWNC Rail Historical Society and was very interested in genealogy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Catherine Davis Quillen . Survivors include a nephew: Charles Davis Quillen of Woodbury, TN; several cousins. A graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at the Cross Anchor Cemetery, beside the Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3945 Babbs Mill Road, Afton, TN 37616, at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of Rev. Terry Wright. There will be no visistation. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
