Joseph W. Tate

Joseph W. 'Jay' Tate, Sr., 75, went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 16, 2006 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Tate was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County. He was a son of the late H.R. and Effie Carver Tate and was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Tate. Mr. Tate was retired from Kennametal Inc. He was a longtime member of Rich Acres Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Tate was survived by his wife, Edna Mae Coffman Tate; two daughters, Nancy Smith and Sue Jones both of Johnson City; two sons, Joseph Tate, Jr. and Carson D. Tate both of Jonesborough; one brother, Bob Tate, Johnson City; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Tate will be conducted at 8 PM Sunday, June 18, 2006 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Reverend Jerry Cannon, Reverend Hollis Ford and Reverend Dan Case will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 10 AM Monday at Washington County Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 AM and travel in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Chris Jones, Brent Jones, Randy Jones, Steve Tate, Michael Tate and Chuck White. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Dugger, Roman Holtsclaw, Eddie Hartman and Steve Haney.The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence, 1205 Shelby Street, Johnson City.
