Joyce Gilbert

Joyce T. Gilbert, age 77, of 803 Haws Drive, Jonesborough, passed away Monday, April 24th at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a native of Western North Carolina, moved to Elizabethton after marrying. Later she lived in Johnson City and Tampa, Florida but in 1992 returned to live in Jonesborough. She was the daughter of the late Walter Trivett and the late Hattie Oaks Trivett. Mrs. Gilbert had retired from the Veterans Affairs Hospital. She was of the Baptist faith and attended churches with family members. One daughter, Evelyn Parlier, one grandson, Anthony Parlier, her first husband, Robert Parlier and her second husband, Ernest Gilbert, preceded her in death. Survivors include, one daughter, Kathy Wiseman and her husband Carl of Jonesborough; three sons and their wives, James and Ayliffe Parlier of Hollidaysburg, Pa, Marvin and Judy Parlier and Dave and Karen Parlier, all of Elizabethton. Five grandchildren survive, Jennifer Parlier, Jonathan and Allison Parlier and Crystal and Jessica Wiseman, two great grandchildren, Joshua Parlier and Deseray Harrison. Four sisters survive, Cleo Wooten of Hickory, NC, Betty Winters, Newland, NC, Sue Laws, Elk Park, NC and Delores Durham of Kingsport. Brothers surviving are, Walter Trivett, Owensboro, KY, Robert Trivett, Goose Creek, SC and James Trivett of Elk Park, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Gilbert will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at Morris Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Rev. Jim Turner will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service. Graveside services and burial will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
