Kenneth M. Clarke

July 22, 1940 — February 14, 2012

Mr. Kenneth M. Clarke, age 71, of Johnson City, passed away, Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in the Holston Valley Medical Center. Mr. Clarke was a native of Elizabethton. He was the son of the late Leverett Kenneth Clarke and Sally Summers Clarke. Mr. Clarke graduated in 1963 from East Tennessee State College with a BS in Military Science. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and completed his military obligation as a company commander with the 80th Division and was honorably discharged with the rank of captain in 1965. He retired from Raytheon in 1990 where he worked in corporate management. Mr. Clarke was a member of the Distinguished Presidents Trust, past board officer of the Pirate Club, and was awarded the National Alumni Award of Honor in 1999. He was a member of the Iota Omicron chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at ETSU. He later enjoyed the pleasure of having his son, Kevin, and his grandson, Alex, joining him as brothers. Survivors include: his loving wife of fifty years, Brenda Clarke of the home; two daughters, Deborah Carole Smith and her husband Jim of Johnson City and Donna Greer of Kingsport; one son Kevin McWayne Clarke and his wife Lori of Gray; one brother, Martin Howard Clarke and his wife Jane of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Gary 'Mac'? MacArthur, Megan Smith, Devon Smith, Aaron Smith, Carmen Smith, Alex Greer, Sarah Michele Greer and Kasidee Clarke; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM Sunday and a memorial service for Mr. Clarke will be conducted at 4 PM Sunday, February 19, 2012 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Pastor Lewy Cornett will officiate. A military graveside committal service will be conducted at 9 AM Monday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 will accord military honors. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 8:25 AM Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Buccaneer Athletic Association with checks made payable to ETSU Foundation, P. O. Box 70721, Johnson City, TN 37614.
