Kenneth Paul Reed

April 8, 1986 — January 29, 2008

Kenneth Paul Reed, 21, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away January 29, 2008 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Knob Creek Road. Kenny had so much energy and lived life to the fullest. He loved his friends and family. He enjoyed helping others. When he was 11 years old, he started doing volunteer work for the Wexford House, the American Red Cross and the Volunteer Kingsport. After graduating from Daniel Boone High School in 2004, he pursued a career in the military, earning his wings at Fort Benning, Georgia and going to Fort Bragg, NC and was in the 82nd Airborne Special Forces. Kenny went on to serve a tour in Afghanistan and survived a collapse and later a bullet to the helmet, which caused a concussion, but he continued fighting. After coming home February 3, 2007 he began employment with Fluor Corporation at TEC. Kenneth was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charlie and Juanita Reed; an uncle, Charles Ed Reed; his maternal great grandparents, Samuel and Iva Mae McCray; and a very special uncle, Kenneth Wayne Grindstaff. Survivors include: his girlfriend, Vy Nguyen of Johnson City, his parents James 'Jim'? and Tammy Diane Grindstaff Reed of Gray, maternal grandmother, Evelyn Reed of Bluff City; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Scott Stevens of Marion, NC, Anita and Kevin Bowers of Bluff City and Kimberly and Wayne Barnett of Bristol; special friends, Paul and Janice Sammons of Gray and several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, February 4, 2008 at 11:30 A.M. in the South Chapel of the Morris '' Baker Funeral Home, under the direction of Rev. James Cambron and Rev. Larry Nelson. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A committal service will be held on Monday at the Mountain Home National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. following the funeral service. Military honors will be provided by the Kingsport VFW 3382 and the Tennessee National Guard. Flowers are welcomed but donations may be made to the DAV Chapter 17, c/o DAV Commander, Bob Everhart, 2774 Bob Little Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
