Lawrence Yelton, 89, of Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, June 7 in the Lakebridge Health Care Center in Johnson City. He was a native of Bakersville, NC and was a son of the late Allison Yelton and Nora Hoilman Yelton. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters. Mr. Yelton served in the U. S. Army during WW II. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Johnson City. He retired as an employee of Vaughn Empire Furniture Co. Survivors include; two sons, Bruce Yelton of Johnson City and Wayne Yelton of Kingsport; one sister, Argie Lee Lewis of AK; five grandchildren, Brian Yelton of Warner Robins, GA, Kristy Yelton of Kingsport, April Barb of Bristol, TN, Bruce L. Yelton and Vonda Marie Yelton both of Johnson City; three great grandchildren, Mckenzie Barb and Hunter Barb and Harleigh Barb all of Bristol, TN; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Sunday, June 10, 2012 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff and Rev. Gene Deaton will officiate. Burial services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 pm from the Roselawn Memory Gardens. A procession will leave the funeral home for the cemetery at 1:30 pm Monday. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Sunday.
