Lester A. Amtsberg

September 22, 1908 — February 2, 2007

Lester A. Amtsberg, 98, of Colonial Hill Retirement Center , Johnson City, passed away Friday, February 2, 2007 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. He was a native of Cleveland, OH. Lester retired in 1979 as a Corporate Vice-President after 49 years of distinguished service at the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company. He is credited with 54 U. S. Patents including an impact wrench used in construction of the World Trade Center. He was a long term member of Kiwanis International, a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City and an avid golfer at the Johnson City Country Club. Mr. Amtsberg was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy and by two brothers and one sister. Survivors include his second wife, Mary Wood Amtsberg; one daughter, Carol A. Beebe of Kingsport; two stepsons, Dr. James F. Wood of Johnson City and Dr. William P. Wood of Charlotte, NC; one step daughter, Frances Wood Sale of Lynchburg, VA; two granddaughters, Dawn Beebe and Linda Beebe; one great-grandson, Jaren Sensabaugh and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Wednesday from the First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City. Rev. Baron Eliason, Dr. William Wood and Rev. Andy Sale will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church, following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, 105 S. Boone St., Johnson City, TN 37604.
