Litt Raines

Mr. Litt Raines, 85, of 869 Allison Road, Piney Flats went home to be with the Lord and his wife Jean on September 5, 2009. Mr. Raines was a native of Jellico, TN and was a longtime resident of Piney Flats. He was a son pf the late Jim and Linda Douglas Raines. Mr. Raines was a retired plumber and attended Tri-Cities Church of God. Litt was a wonderful husband, Daddy, and PaPaw Buster to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a great neighbor and friend to all who knew him. He was a hard worker and a wonderful provider for his family. No job was too big or small for him in order to provide for them. Litt enjoyed trout fishing and loved to brag to his sons-in-law that he had caught a larger trout than they ever had. He was an avid gardener who loved to show off his garden, especially his potatoes, to everyone who came to visit him. He never failed to share his produce with family, neighbors and visitors. He was proud of the fact that he was a veteran of World War II, was a Navy Corpsman attached to the 6th Marine Division and took part in the last three island invasions in the Pacific. Mr. Raines was preceded in death his loving wife Jean Ivey Raines, parents Jim and Linda Douglas Raines, brothers Ed Raines and Ray Raines, sisters Ada Hopkins and Alene Atkins and a son-in-law Norton Muse. He is survived by: three daughters, Aleen Muse of Lawton, OK, Judy and husband Ken Bewley of Elizabethton, Wanda Raines of Piney Flats; a son-in-law Charles Perry of Bluff City; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; a sister Mildred and husband Cliff Stein of Lafollette, TN; several nieces and nephews. The family of Mr. Litt Raines would like to express their thanks to his neighbors, friends, the V.A., the Hermitage Health Center and all the wonderful nurses and doctors who cared for him. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Chief of Volunteers Service at the V.A., 69 Dogwood Ave, Johnson City, TN 37684 or the Hermitage Health Center, 1633 Hillview Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The funeral service for Mr. Litt Raines will be conducted at 8 PM Thursday, Sep 10, 2009 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Richard Bawgus will officiate. Mr. Raines will be laid to rest at 10 AM Friday in the New Bethel Cemetery with full Military Honors. A procession will leave Morris-Baker at 9:30 AM Friday to go to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Smith, Bill Smith, Bud Myers, Ronnie Martin, Clifford Meader, and Bob Jones. The family will receive friends in the Morris-Baker South Chapel from 6 to 8 PM Thursday prior to the service.
