Rev. Lou A. Patton, age 81, of Johnson City, formerly of Maryville, TN., went to meet his Savior on Saturday, October 2, 2010 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on February 6, 1929 to the late W.H. and Flora Patton. Rev. Patton was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Southwestern Baptist Church. His health prevented him from attending the last few months of his life but his love for the people there never stopped. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, an ordained minister, a volunteer at the Johnson City Medical Center and a member of the Tuesdays Senior Mens Lunch Club. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Grace 'Sug'? Patton, sisters, Mae Willie Ouzts and Mary Rose and brother-in-law, Howard Major. Rev. Patton is survived by his three children, Leslie P. Richards of Alcoa, TN, Keith A. Patton and wife Retha of Johnson City and Mark Patton of Watauga, TN who will forever love and cherish their memories of their father. He was a devoted grandfather to Chad Richards and Megan Walker of Maryville, TN and Luke and Laura 'Little Bit'? Patton of Johnson City. He also leaves behind a brother, Robert Patton of Abbeville, SC and a devoted sister, Sara Major of Greenwood, SC; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Southwestern Baptist Church. The funeral service for Rev. Lou A. Patton will follow at 8pm with Rev. Johnny Jones officiating. Committal services will be held Wednesday morning, October 6, 2010 at 11am in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors to be rendered by the Boone Dam VFW Post #4933 and members of the Tennessee Army National Guard. Pallbearers will be the active deacon body of Southwestern Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Homer Price, Ken Stout, Joey Walker, Ed Parker, Chad Richards, Harry Ford and Luke Patton. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 am Wednesday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the St. Judes Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or to the Southwestern Baptist Church, building fund, 1112 Cherokee Road, Johnson City, TN 37604. The family would like to say a special thanks to nurses and staff on 4500 wing of JCMC for all their special care, Dr. Clifford Wiegand, Dr. Ray Lamb and their caring staff, and to the Southwestern Baptist Church for all their many acts of kindness.
