Lynette Sue Cross

April 12, 1945 — June 13, 2021

Loving wife and mother Lynette S. Cross, 76, of Morgantown, WV inherited the keys to her final home on Sunday, June 13, 2021, when she passed away at Johnson City Medical Center after an extended battle with multiple health conditions.

She was born in Spencer, WV to the late Leonard and Effie Starcher.

Lynette loved to sing – something she did through the final weeks of her life. As a child, she began singing beside her mother at Bethel Chapel – a place that remained near to her heart her entire life. It was singing that introduced her to the love of her life – Larry (she replaced him in a local gospel quartet when he left to join the Navy). Upon his return, they were wed and began their family in Morgantown, WV. Their love of singing continued as they formed a gospel quartet in Morgantown that took them, their family, and friends to many beautiful little (and big) churches throughout the Central Appalachian area. This time of her life fused two central loves for Lynette – traveling to new places to meet and love new people AND singing in church of the beautiful redemptive power of Jesus Christ. This story would not be complete without including what Lynette significantly loved during the second half of her life – her animals. She and Larry loved all animals, but especially cats. And it was these cats that provided them with so much love in their retirement. There are many furry friends who were happy to see her when she entered the gates to her new mansion in heaven.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Gary Starcher.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years Larry; children Vicky Pyles and her husband Caleb Pyles, Brian Cross and his wife Patricia Amadio Cross; grandchildren Brianna & Kyleigh Pyles, and Emily Bowers Prescott Cross; niece Barbara Starcher Coward and her husband Joey Coward; nephew Stephen Kiser.

To celebrate her life with song and remembrance the family invites friends to the Morris-Baker Funeral Home Dogwood Chapel at 1pm on Saturday, June 26, 2021. For those not able to attend the service in person, the service can be viewed on the Morris-Baker website, under Lynette’s obituary page, and it will be available to view for 90 days. Finally, a brief reception after the service will allow for friends to show their love and support to the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to either the ASPCA https://www.aspca.org/ways-to-give OR the American Cancer Society ( https://www.cancer.org/involved/donate/memorial-giving.html).

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family via www.morrisbaker.com
